The human navel also called the belly button or the umbilicus is a raised or hollow area in the abdomen, formed after the umbilical cord detaches after childbirth.
Parts of the navel include the umbilical tip and the periumbilical skin. The umbilical tip
is the center of the navel often
described as a button shape. The periumbilical skin
skin is the skin that surrounds it.
Structurally, there are two types of navel, fondly called the innies and the outies.  The outies have there
umbilical tip protruding past the periumbilical
skin. While, the innies are concave in shape and have their umbilical tip inside the skin.
It is a fascinating and interesting part of the human body and it would be great to learn new things about it. That’s why today, I compiled some weird facts about the human navel for you guys. Hope you enjoy.
1. It is full of many bacteria
The navel has been said to be one
of the dirtiest parts of the body. In 2012, a scientific research paper published by s”sts studying biodiversity pointed this fact out. They checked 60 different belly buttons and found out that they contained 2368 species of bacteria. This means that an average human has 67 species of bacteria in their belly button.
2. The shape can change
The shape of the belly button may be affected by long term
changes to diet and exercise.
However, sudden change in shape can due to ascites. Ascites is the accumulation of protein-
containing (ascitic) fluid within the abdomen.
3. There are people with no belly button
Yes, there are babies born without any visible umbilicus.  Although we were all born with an umbilical
cord attached to a stomach and should have a bellybutton, but
in some people the scar heals completely with time and is no longer visible. Czech supermodel Karolina Kurkova has no belly button, not Kyle XY.
4. It can be used for healing
Ilchi Lee , the founder ChangeYourEnergy developed the process of Belly Button
Healing (BBH). Belly Button Healing involves the “regular and
mindful stimulation of the entire abdomen
using the navel as the point of contact to
relieve pain in the body, release toxins, improve
digestion, boost energy and elevate mood”. In his site, they used a specialized belly button stimulating wand
known as the Healing Life Wand.
5. Omphaloskepsis
Omphaloskepsis or navel-gazing is
examination of one’s navel as an aid to
meditation.
